There is no church in Neratovice

It was an intention. The communists founded it in 1957 as a town without a church.
They wanted to prove that this was possible. Hence, the church is still missinng very much.

Therefore we want to build
Holy Trinity Church and Cardinal Josef Beran Community Centre

And we want to build it so that it is:

DIGNIFIED DOMINANT OF THE TOWN

If you say “Neratovice”, everyone thinks of a town of chemical industry full of chimneys. The main square is formed by very high prefabricated buildings. A dignified dominant is missing. The new church should fulfill this role.

A PLACE WHERE PEOPLE OF GOOD WILL MEET

The whole community operates in improvised conditions, at the cost of great personal effort. The proposed church building would function as a community center, that welcomes not only religious societies and activities but all the people in Neratovice who want to get involved in the social and cultural life of the community.

UNEXPECTED ARCHITECTURAL JEWEL

The Holy Trinity church will be an architectural jewel. It was designed by a leading Czech architect prof. Ing. arch. Zdeňek Fránek (*1961) and has a potential to become a sought-after cultural heritage. The main body of the proposed church is reminiscent of Noah´s ark, the tower of a figure leaning towards the ark.

MEMENTO OF RECENT CZECH HISTORY

Community center links to the Cardinal Joseph Beran. In the time when the communists founded a town without a church, Cardinal Beran was marginalized by the communist power. Therefore, the church will be a memento of recent Czech history.

CULTIVATION OF INHOSPITABLE LANDSCAPE

The church will stand at the frontier of the towns Libis and Neratovice at a place that is now covered by scrub and full of garbage. There will be a playground and park in the church´s surroundings. We will replace a dump by a church. An inhospitable landscape will be cultivated.

CENTER OF CIVIL SOCIETY
AND CRIMINALITY PREVENTION

The church will be of a great social significance. It will provide roof over head to a parish, where young people prepare programme for the others and hence learn responsibility, mutual consideration, help and respect. The church therefore contributes to the support of mature civil society, social receptivity and criminality prevention.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
This website presents our long-term wish to create a place of congregation and community for all the citizens of Neratovice, a town without a church.

It should be a building providing space for quiet contemplation, meditation and calm. A church is, however, also a place where we can share joy and look after each other. A place which helps us rise in our faith and which – through art – inspires us to pause in our hurried lives and listen to God. Such exceptional monument represents our togetherness: it will warmly welcome everyone.  Every single one of us has their undeniable place in shaping our community, just like every brick in this building forms a perfect whole.

We hope to open the doors of Neratovice’s new Holy Trinity Church as soon as possible in order to welcome you to our community centre and sanctuary dedicated to the memory of cardinal Josef Beran.

P.Peter Kovac
Priest, Neratovice

CURRENT DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROJECT

At the end of 2019, we got zoning permits for the project and at the moment, preparation works are carried out – such as the connections of energy supply and landscaping of the property. In spring 2020 we are expecting building permits to be issued. We are currently preparing the budget and financing of the works due to be done in 2020, generously supported by the Prague Archbishopric.

We are reaching out to artists, who will be involved in decorating the chapel.

The whole project is fueled by the boundless enthusiasm of the parishioners, volunteers, and friends, who step by step bring the vision of the new Neratovice church to life.

Our parish

Our community has a vibrant cultural and social life. The parishioners celebrate Holy communion during Sunday mass together (commonly attended by 200 people), but also organize multiple cultural activities and trips, meetings, and workshops which are open to everyone, regardless of faith. Nevertheless, suitable space for these activities is missing.

Five years ago, the parishioners founded Salesian Youth Movement – Neratovice Club covering most events that the parish stages. There are many activities prepared especially for children and youth. Every month, they organize at least one trip or a weekend gathering, and in summer there are camps. However, most events take place in Neratovice – regular meetings of children, youth or mothers, community evenings, costume parties for children, garden parties, Christmas parties, and afternoon games.

The parish also has two choirs, youth society, religious education classes, and also works as a place for mothers with children to meet.

The whole community operates in improvised conditions, at the cost of great personal effort. The proposed church building would function as a community center, that welcomes not only religious societies and activities but all the people in Neratovice who want to get involved in the social and cultural life of the community.
